Description
A macro photography shot of oil droplets on water frozen in motion while suspended over a colored backdrop.
To achieve this effect I placed a piece of colored paper underneath a flat dish with the oil and water in it. Next the dish had to be raised up a little (about 6 inches or so) to enable lighting from below.
Your camera must be on a sturdy tripod and set up from above the dish and completely parallel to the surface of the water/oil. When the light source or sources is/are turned on then be ready to capture the image. N.B. Always use a cable release or remote triggering device to avoid camera shake.
Now you can change card colors, focusing distance and lighting perspective all to achieve different results.
