Description
A lightning bolt is caught striking the beautiful lavender fields in Provence in the south of France.
This is one of the most popular areas of lavender growing in France. This image was taken near the town of Valensole in July when the plants were in full flower.
The main lavender fields of Provence are centered around the Luberon and Verdon plateau regions to the north of Aix-en-Provence and Marseille, and also to the east of Avignon The flowering season in the lowlands is generally from mid June to early July, although it can vary slightly from year to year depending on the temperature and rainfall.
Higher up on the plateau, around the town of Sault, the weather is cooler which means that the blooming season is a little bit later, usually from early July to early August.
