Description
The wonderful shapes of Lower Antelope Canyon near Page in Arizona are all around. Having been on a photography tour, which used to allow tripods, one had the opportunity to find endless fascinating vistas, shapes and lighting wherever you looked.
As from 20 Dec 2019 the photography tour has being discontinued, which is such a shame. Apparently, visitor numbers have got so great that these specialist photo tours - which allowed the use of tripods and monopods - have caused too many blockages and hold ups of the general public more speedy tours.
It can be very dusty within the canyon so take care in changing lenses! There are so many images to be had, it was such a joy to see the imaginative figures and faces in the rock as well as those areas that offered a view skywards.
Antelope Canyon was formed by the erosion of Navajo Sandstone due to flash flooding and other sub-aerial processes. Rainwater runs into the vast basin above the slot canyon sections, picking up speed and sand as it rushes into the narrow passageways. Over time the passageways have eroded away, which has deepened the corridors and smoothed hard edges to form those wonderful "flowing" shapes.
