Description
Northwest of the town of Valensole in Provence, France is the Valensole plateau famed for its lavender growing. The area is situated in the south of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, near Digne-les-Bains and the Verdon gorges, and covers an area of 800 sq km.
By driving off the beaten track charming scenes such as this can be found with old ruins located within or near to the lavender fields. The only editing that was necessary to this photo was the removal of thousands of bees against the light sky which showed up as black dots and streaks (due to the high resolution camera that was used).
There is so much beautifully scented lavender here in the south of France often planted alongside wheat fields and the occasional sunflower field. There are a number of charming villages such as Saint-Martin-de-BrĂ´mes, Riez, and Esparron-de-Verdon in the area too.
The best time to visit these typical Provencal landscapes is July when the Valensole plateau is awash with gorgeous blue lavender in bloom. It's a sight and scent to behold!
