Description
A view of some Copenhagen rooftops taken from the top of The Round Tower. This is the classic spot in the center of the city to look out over Copenhagen.
The Round Tower (Danish: Rundetårn), is a 17th-century tower located in central part of Copenhagen, Denmark. It is one of the many architectural projects of Christian IV of Denmark, built as an astronomical observatory. It's most noted for its amazing equestrian staircase, a 7.5-turn helical corridor leading to the platform at the top at 34.8 meters above ground, and for the expansive 360 degree views which it offers over Copenhagen.
When you look out over the city, taking in the uneven roofs, their place in the landscape and the way the light shines through the cracks, or cascades, you’re able to enjoy the city in a different way to that of wandering the streets.
In Copenhagen, the low skyline is thanks to centuries-old fire regulations (the city has burned down twice, in 1728 and 1795). The roofs are red and there are jewels woven into the fabric; the gold and green dome of Mamor Kirken, the twisted alligator spire of the old stock exchange. Copenhagen is full of the very old and the brutally new.
