Description
So many shapes, carved into the sandstone by flowing water, can be seen while walking through the extraordinary Lower Antelope Canyon near Page in Arizona. If you ever visit look after your camera and equipment as it is very dusty within the canyon. Take care if changing lenses!
There are so many images to be had, it was such a joy to see the imaginative figures and faces in the rock as well as those areas that offered a view skywards.
Antelope Canyon was formed by the erosion of Navajo Sandstone due to flash flooding and other sub-aerial processes. Rainwater runs into the vast basin above the slot canyon sections, picking up speed and sand as it rushes into the narrow passageways. Over time the passageways have eroded away, which has deepened the corridors and smoothed hard edges to form those wonderful "flowing" shapes.
