Description
Beside the gristmill at Brock Millpond in Trenton, North Carolina. The place has an ethereal quality about it especially as evening approaches. Every time I visit the lake, it shows off different qualities and colors.
Brock Mill dates back to the 1700’s when the first dam was constructed by hand. The millpond itself is fed by underground springs and by Crooked Run Creek with its headwaters in the Hofmann Forest.
Only a very small part of the 133 acres lake is actually seen from Highway 58. The total area of the pond is 122 acres of water and 11 acres of land which includes the small islands. The outlet for the pond drains the water into the Trent River southeast of the town of Trenton. The depth of the pond is 30 feet in many spots, however, the average depth is 12 feet.
