Description
Looking skyward in the extraordinary Lower Antelope Canyon near Page in Arizona. A small bunch of sticks or other sort of growth clings on precariously to the vertical walls at the lower left of the image.
There is so much to look at in this canyon where shapes on the sandstone walls ebb and flow in all directions. With the opportunity of so many images to be had, it was joyful to see the imaginative figures and faces in the rock as well as those areas that offered a view skywards.
Antelope Canyon was formed by the erosion of Navajo Sandstone due to flash flooding and other sub-aerial processes. Rainwater runs into the vast basin above the slot canyon sections, picking up speed and sand as it rushes into the narrow passageways. Over time the passageways have eroded away, which has deepened the corridors and smoothed hard edges to form those wonderful "flowing" shapes.
